Importing from China to Australia

Key considerations for importing from China

Origin documentation: ChAFTA and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) can both reduce duty, but only for goods that meet the rules of origin and carry valid origin documentation. Your broker can confirm which agreement gives the better outcome for each product.
Asbestos compliance: Australia prohibits the import of asbestos and goods containing it. The Australian Border Force warns that overseas ‘asbestos free’ labels and test certificates may not meet Australian requirements, so at-risk goods need documented assurance back to the point of manufacture.
BMSB season: China is an emerging risk country for the 2026-27 brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) season, which runs from 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027. Certain cargo shipped in that window faces increased random inspections.
