David’s career in logistics dates back to his post-high school days, and he well remembers his first on-the-job duties hand-delivering typed ships’ manifests.
The world of international freight forwarding hasn’t stood still, and neither has David. An avid consumer of business books, research, seminars and webinars, he has moved with the times to carve a successful career as an entrepreneur and business leader.
His career highlights a variety of experiences and international roles, including overseeing South-East Asia operations for a leading freight forwarder and a pivotal role in establishing a successful sales program in the USA.
In 1997, David launched his freight forwarding and logistics venture in Melbourne. In 2011, to enhance his leadership skills, he commenced the Owner/President Management Course at Harvard Business School.
This professional investment has rewarded David with Magellan Logistics’ continued growth – driven by his passionate commitment to the needs of all clients.
“I have always been ambitious to grow the business through a focus on the customer and their requirements. And we are equally committed to the development of our staff – they are the best asset we have,” says David. “My job still isn’t done here, and I am looking forward to the next 25 years!”
Head of Finance / General Manager
Helen was inspired to join our Magellan Logistics team because she knew our personalised approach to client service, people management, and business growth made it a perfect match for her talents.
After 20 years of financial sector experience, Helen’s unique blend of skills and professional expertise are invaluable in her dual roles as Head of Finance and General Manager.
Helen brings a wealth of diverse knowledge and talent with her determination to make Magellan an even more dynamic business. Helen is a pivotal member of our friendly team and enjoys working in a fun environment where relationships matter.
National Operations Manager
Peter brings enormous energy to the role of National Operations Manager. Following in his father’s footsteps, Peter has worked in almost every aspect of international freight since starting as a runner more than 25 years ago. With management roles in import and export sea and airfreight, and transport, Peter is also a licensed Customs Broker. You might say he lives and breathes forwarding.
Our reputation for integrity and customer service and our place in what he sees as a market sweet spot “large enough service, small enough to care” first attracted Peter to Magellan. His attention to detail, born from his experience and people-oriented attitude, made Peter the ideal person to oversee our complex operations.
Peter’s focus is on continuous improvement of our service capabilities, positive culture, client relationships and the Magellan brand.
National Client Services Manager
Con is an international freight specialist who has enjoyed growing with the company since establishing our NSW branch in 2008. After completing a business degree, Con landed in the logistics space after discovering freight forwarding. The leadership qualities of the Magellan management team inspired Con to pursue a career in an industry he describes as both “challenging and rewarding.”
An established leader himself, Con stands by the values that he feels are crucial to the success and prosperity of Magellan and its great team – positivity, flexibility, empathy and honesty.
Con’s strengths lie in his collegiate style and ability to create a cohesive, positive team environment.
As National Client Services Manager, Con has implemented streamlined processes that place the clients at the centre. He believes the “key to success for businesses our size is to develop and harness strong relationships with clients, staff and service providers.”
Sales Manager (VIC)
Edi brings a wealth of expertise across all international transport modes focusing on retail-specific freight. With more than 20 years of experience, Edi is proof that strong client relationships and a keen eye for detail are crucial elements in ensuring successful deliveries. Attracted by our reputation and specialist service suite, Edi joined Magellan in 2016.
Edi adopts a strategic approach to devising freight solutions for our clients – getting to know their business needs intimately and deftly changing course as conditions demand it. He has a drive for continuous improvement and an intuitive ability to problem solve, regularly exceeding service expectations.
As an integral member of our sales and management teams, Edi’s contributions regularly lead to service and process improvements across the board.
NZ Branch Manager
Jeff joined Magellan as New Zealand Manager in 2019 as part of a rejuvenation of our NZ branch. Jeff had already seen enormous potential in Magellan NZ and was eager to get his hands on the reins to develop Magellan’s NZ market even further.
As a freight and logistics expert with over 20 years of experience in roles ranging from operations and customs manager to business development and general management, his expertise in all facets of the industry is evident.
Jeff cites self-motivation and perseverance as his key strengths. It’s easy to see Jeff fulfilling his twin ambitions of building long term client relationships through the provision of exceptional customer service and building Magellan NZ’s reputation in the market as one to trust and rely on.
Qld Branch Manager / Sales Manager (QLD)
Tania commenced her career in the volatile and challenging world of international freight forwarding more than 20 years ago.
With experience in imports, exports, warehousing, and management, Tania developed a solid foundation for her true calling – business development. In 2016 Tania took on the opportunity to establish a Queensland branch for Magellan, building it from the ground up. As a creative problem solver, this was the challenge she was after.
Motivated by her pride in knowing she has developed the best possible solutions for her clients, Tania is at home pouring her energy and passion into driving business growth and cultivating close customer relationships. Tania’s vision for the Brisbane branch to become the most admired forwarding business in the state for its commitment to client service is well within sight.
National Customs Manager
In 1990 Duncan took on a temporary role in air exports after leaving school. Within months, he was hooked and studying to become his family’s 3rd generation Customs Broker.
Decades on, Duncan remains committed to his ethos of exceeding customers’ expectations and the quest for operational excellence. Having had exposure to all facets of forwarding, Duncan isn’t surprised by anything, deftly handling all freight scenarios that come his way.
Duncan praised our innovative approach, high service levels and attention to client needs. When asked ‘Why Magellan?,” he cites the collegiate culture and family feel of Magellan, “Being able to go home every day knowing I’m part of such a team and feeling that my efforts are contributing to our success is very rewarding.”
General Manager, Project Logistics
Beginning his career in India, Charles provides a unique perspective as Magellan’s General Manager, Project Logistics.
After a 22 year career with Accord Logistics, Charles brings his wealth of expertise and practical experience to Magellan across a wide range of projects. His drive for success comes from his pure love of Project Logistics, engaging with people worldwide to critically evaluate each project to solve complex and unique problems for major international infrastructure projects.
Charles’s growth mindset sees him always striving for improvements. His career goal is to use Magellan’s success factors to shape it into a world-leading project logistics forwarder. With the team’s support and the knowledge his contribution is valued across the business, he is confident of success.
Having provided HR partnering in various sectors from oil and gas to public health, Erica was on the hunt for a fresh challenge in a new industry to sink her teeth into when she came across Magellan. She was immediately impressed by our strategic focus and investment in our most valuable resource – our people.
Erica is an HR Generalist with a solid employee relations background making her an invaluable contributor to the management team. As custodian of our Fundamentals program, her passion for change management and talent for building positive and productive cultures is evident. People are Erica’s motivation – uniting them around a common goal and supporting them to achieve it is what keeps her going.
With a background in advertising, branding and consulting, Melissa has had a hand in developing marketing strategies for corporates, start-ups and not for profits in a range of sectors for over 20 years.
A creative and commercially aware B-to-B marketer who excels at solving common and complex marketing problems, she was drawn to Magellan because of the critical role brand and marketing played in the business’ strategic plan and the unique challenge it represented.
Melissa is a firm believer that brands and businesses must walk the talk to live up to their identities. Her well-honed project management skills are regularly employed on Magellan’s many innovative initiatives to carve out an authentic image in our customers’ minds.
