Like most people around the country, when the Magellan team arrived back in the office after the Christmas / New Year break the devastating bushfires in south-eastern Australia were a big topic of discussion.
With the Australia Day public holiday approaching, we decided a great way to celebrate would be raising funds and supporting the Australians doing it tough as a consequence. And Bogan Day was conceived.
As we tapped into our inner bogans, many of our team were unrecognizable in their fancy dress. After a hearty BBQ and a few rounds of Bogan Bingo, the votes were in and our Bogan King was crowned. We toasted him with a bite of a lamington and set about tallying up the funds raised.
Magellan management generously matched funds raised by staff by a ratio of 10:1 and a total of $3300 has been donated to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund for bushfire relief. We chose GERF because it is volunteer-run so 100% of funds are distributed quickly to the people in communities in bushfires affected areas who need it most.
The theme day was a huge success, not to mention heaps of fun and the team is proud to be able to give so much to people in need. It feels like this could become a tradition.
